When it came to installing a first floor wet room in Milton Keynes recently, the expertise required was all in the preparation of the room.
A true wet-room is a completely watertight room simply furnished with a shower. There’s no conventional shower tray but a shower area, which is a continuation of the floor. On a ground floor the process of making the room water-tight is essential to prevent leaks, damp and ingress of algae. But when the wet room is on the first or second floor it is even more important that the room is completely sealed and water-proofed by experts in wet-room design and installation.
Reeves Home and Garden specialise in wet room installations and fitting modern bathrooms. Based in Bedford we cover Beds, Bucks, Northants, parts of Cambridgeshire and North London.
To set about turning the first floor bathroom of a detached family home into a water-proof tank, firstly the room has to be fully waterproofed. This completely eradicates the need for a separate shower enclosure, as the gently sloped floor drains water away into an inset shower drain. Wet rooms can create much needed space, and how you design your wet room is up to you; it can be minimal or creative depending on your individual requirements.
Shower screens can section off your wet room, ensuring that other fixtures such as a sink or toilet need not get wet with every shower you take and when if twinned with a wall hung toilet and wash basin a wet room can be very easy to keep clean.
Other benefits include ease of access. This means that the whole family can use the bathroom safely, so elderly or disabled people can retain their independence which is often lost when using conventional bathrooms.
So, as has been shown in Reeves’ latest installation in Milton Keynes, it is possible to have a wet room in most homes, regardless of whether you have concrete or wooden floors, and the optional addition of under floor heating may give your bathroom that extra touch of comfort . Floors are naturally designed using non-slip surfaces and advanced waterproofing techniques protect the rest of your home against damage from moisture and leaks.
Reeves has installed wet rooms in homes in Olney, Aspley Guise, Woburn, Bedford, Turvey, Stevington and Tempsford.
